In an article published in Folha de São Paulo, our executive director, Carola MB Matarazzo, highlights the importance of co-investment and strategic philanthropy in addressing social challenges in Brazil. Here's an excerpt:
Brazil faces monumental challenges on the path to social justice. Predictions indicate it will take 116 years to achieve racial equality and 131 years for gender equality. It will be a long race.
Some take the lead, securing the best position. Obstacles and emergencies arise in the path of others. It is inequality materializing on the track. In response to these demands, civil society has acted in a coordinated manner, involving other actors in the articulation of strategies that ensure fair opportunities for all.
Those who started with a head start have committed to providing support and resources to those who follow. This is what happens in the Bem Maior Movement. We have adopted a co-investment strategy with other social investors to expand resources and boost impact.
With donations from 11 philanthropists over five years, we were able to strengthen 194 CSOs (civil society organizations) and collectives in 26 states and the Federal District, through an investment of over R$ 100 million. This means leveling the playing field to ensure that more people have opportunities to run side by side.
