This association arose from a desire to care for and support needy cancer patients in the northern region of Minas Gerais. These patients typically come from neighboring towns or even more distant rural areas and are transported to Montes Claros via the municipal health services. In Montes Claros, they would wait for chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment, returning to their place of origin at the end of the day. These already ill and debilitated individuals endured a daily commute of up to 20 hours between transportation and treatment. Observing these people in squares and areas near hospitals, lacking even basic necessities like food, the idea arose to create a welcoming structure where they could eat, rest, shower, etc. Initially, the association rented properties for this purpose, and since then, it has been possible for these patients to stay overnight during the week, returning to spend the weekend with their families.
