Throughout 2022, social and environmental challenges were complex in a country with as much inequality as Brazil. As we highlighted at Legado , a meeting held in partnership with Santander in April, the situation is much more complicated than most people with stable financial conditions imagine. For example, 38% of families depend on donations for food.
The 2nd National Survey on Food Insecurity in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic, released this year , helped shed more light on the issue of hunger by revealing that approximately 15.5% of Brazilians live in a situation of severe food insecurity. That's 33.1 million people without enough to eat.
In the midst of such a challenging situation, social actions are being carried out to bring food and hope for a better future. With the pandemic, Brazilians have started talking more about philanthropy and learning more about the work of the sector. Unity and efforts cannot diminish!
The holiday season is a great time to remind everyone that solidarity and generosity are essential for spreading good. To encourage donations, the Bem Maior Movement blog presents 5 campaign suggestions that will make a difference in many people's lives during this period.
Cufa Christmas
CUFA (Central Única das Favelas) is organizing an emergency action to collect donations after an accidental fire hit its distribution center in Heliópolis, São Paulo, burning basic food baskets, clothes, shoes, hygiene and cleaning products, toys, and other items that were to be donated to communities. The "CUFA Christmas" campaign will help 5,000 favelas in Brazil.

Christmas without Hunger
In 1993, sociologist Herbert de Souza, known as Betinho, mobilized society to try to lift 32 million people out of hunger, as highlighted by Ação Cidadania, the organization he founded. Today, that number is higher (33.1 million). In this context of regression, the "Christmas Without Hunger" campaign is once again being carried out, reminding us that "a Christmas without hunger starts with you (the donor)." In 2021, the campaign collected more than 2,500 tons of food and reached more than 1 million people.

Invisible Christmas
SP Invisível – an organization that has been fighting since 2014 for a more humane approach to people living on the streets – is promoting the “Invisible Christmas” campaign for the eighth year, a initiative to help those in this situation. More than just delivering food, the action brings support, affection, and fun to those who are homeless during this December period when families gather to celebrate Christmas.

Christmas that Transforms
Through education, inclusion, and combating waste, Gastromotiva works using gastronomy and food as tools for social transformation. In a year-end initiative, the social organization launched the "Christmas that Transforms" campaign, which aims to distribute 10,000 nutritious and tasty meals to people experiencing hunger.

Solidarity Dinner
The Liga Solidária (Solidarity League), which will celebrate its 100th anniversary next March, is running the "Solidarity Dinner" campaign to help purchase items for Christmas baskets. The goal is to deliver the baskets to 4,300 families served by the long-standing organization. Each solidarity dinner costs R$ 160, but donations of any amount are welcome.
