Ten libraries from four regions of Brazil were awarded prizes for their innovative practices, sustainability, and social and digital transformation in their municipalities. This initiative is part of our project, in partnership with the Bem Maior Movement, which aims to strengthen a network of public, community, school, and university libraries throughout the country.
In two editions, held in 2019 and 2020, participating professionals received diverse training so they could develop a new program based on community research, understanding how the library could contribute to local development in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In total, 10 training sessions were held for more than 100 library professionals. The two phases impacted more than 1,400 people in technology courses offered by participating institutions.
The award aimed to recognize professionals and spaces that led the development and implementation of innovative activities based on the needs identified in each municipality. The top 5 winners in each phase receive equipment to support the use of technology in their spaces, such as laptops (1st and 2nd place), a 32″ TV (3rd place), a data projector (4th place), and a multifunction printer (5th place).
All participating libraries deserve congratulations for their commitment, dedication, and the quality of their programming aimed at social impact and digital empowerment!
We will soon publish the Best Practices booklet for 2019 and 2020 on the Recode website.
