Hunger and extreme poverty have once again become a sad reality in Brazil. The crisis, aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic, has intensified inequalities and the social challenges facing the country.

Hunger in Brazil has worsened and now affects 19.1 million people (9% of the population). The most recent survey by the PENSSAN Network indicates that 116.8 million people are experiencing food insecurity.

On the other hand, this critical moment also highlighted the mobilizing power of civil society . Never before has so much been donated! In Brazil alone, from the beginning of the pandemic until July 2021, more than 7.1 billion reais were donated, according to data from ABCR .

 

The challenges continue

With the arrival of the Christmas and New Year holidays, one of the most charitable periods of the year, there is no shortage of donation campaigns. And among so many options and causes that need support, you may be lost, unable to decide where to donate, but don't worry! Christmas without hunger

Organized by Ação da Cidadania , the Christmas Without Hunger campaign is one of the largest solidarity mobilizations of civil society, which has been taking place since 1994 and has already helped more than 20 million people throughout Brazil to have a dignified Christmas.

Solidarity Dinner

2021 Solidarity Dinner campaign is organized by Liga Solidária. All food baskets will be donated to people served by the institution, which has been operating in the city of São Paulo since 1924 with projects in education, longevity, and citizenship. The goal is for 4,000 families to benefit from the initiative.

Mothers of the Favela

The "Mães da Favela" (Mothers of the Favela) project, by CUFA , has two aspects: the first is to collect and distribute physical food baskets to mothers in Brazilian favelas throughout the country; the second is to transfer the value of the digital baskets so that these mothers have the autonomy to buy what they need most.

There are people who are hungry

The humanitarian aid campaign "There Are People Who Are Hungry" is an initiative of the Black Coalition for Rights , aimed at assisting 222,895 families identified by social organizations working in neighborhoods, favelas, and quilombos throughout Brazil.

G10 favelas

G10 Favelas is a social organization that brings together leaders and social entrepreneurs from Brazilian favelas. All the resources raised in the campaign are reinvested in goods for the communities. In 2020, they delivered basic food baskets, ready-made meals, hygiene kits, masks, and a more dignified life to more than 500,000 people.
