Throughout 2022, social and environmental challenges were complex in a country with as much inequality as Brazil. As we highlighted in Legado , a meeting held in partnership with Santander in April, the situation is much more complicated than most people in stable financial conditions imagine. For example, 38% of families depend on donations to feed themselves.
The 2nd National Survey on Food Insecurity in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic, released this year , helped shed more light on the issue of hunger by revealing that around 15.5% of Brazilians live in a situation of severe food insecurity. There are 33.1 million people without anything to eat.
In the midst of such a challenging situation, social actions are carried out to bring food and hope for a better future. With the pandemic, Brazilians started talking more about philanthropy and learning about the sector's work in more detail. Unity and efforts cannot fade!
The holiday season is a great time to remind everyone that solidarity and generosity are essential to spreading good. To encourage donations, the Movimento Bem Maior blog presents 5 campaign suggestions that will make a difference in the lives of many people during this period.
Cufa Christmas
Cufa (Central Única das Favelas) is organizing an emergency action to collect donations after an accidental fire hit the distribution center in Heliópolis, in São Paulo, and burned food baskets, clothes, shoes, hygiene and cleaning products, toys and others items that would be donated to communities. The “Natal da Cufa” campaign will help 5,000 favelas in Brazil.

Christmas without Hunger
In 1993, sociologist Herbert de Souza, known as Betinho, mobilized society for the task of trying to save 32 million people from hunger, as highlighted by Ação Cidadania, founded by him. Today, this number is higher (33.1 million). In this context of regression, the “Christmas without Hunger” campaign is once again carried out and reminds us that “a Christmas without hunger starts with you (donor)”. In 2021, the action collected more than 2,500 tons of food and reached more than 1 million people.

Invisible Christmas
SP Invisível – an organization that has been fighting since 2014 for the humanization of views on people living on the streets – has been promoting “Invisible Christmas” for the eighth year, a campaign to help those in this situation. More than delivering food, the action brings support, affection and fun to those who are homeless during this period of December when families get together to celebrate Christmas.

Christmas that Transforms
Through education, inclusion and the fight against waste, Gastromotiva works using gastronomy and food as tools for social transformation. In an end-of-year action, the social organization launched the “Christmas that Transforms” campaign, which aims to distribute 10,000 nutritious and tasty meals to people facing hunger.
