The country faces complex challenges – and, consequently, also the third sector – ranging from the increase in the socioeconomically vulnerable population to the scarcity of resources. In this scenario, the formation of partnerships between social organizations has been a growing trend.
Several questions are references for the success of collaborative work, with emphasis on group cohesion and motivation to participate in the alliance. “Trust, vital for creating flexible and efficient partnerships, to the detriment of control instruments, has been one of the most important concepts” says Luiza Serpa, director of the PHI Institute.
This approach is directly related to the sector's quest to produce changes that are systemic, structuring and transformative on a larger scale. It requires openness and flexibility from each member of the partnership to review their practices and processes and give up leadership. It also involves the need to increase efficiency in resource management and the understanding that none of the challenges we need to face as a society will be resolved with the actions of just one organization. Collaborating is a great opportunity to exercise humility.
As the relationship develops, the level of understanding and trust increases. This has been the partnership between Movimento Bem Maior and Instituto Phi, initiated in 2019, still in the first edition of the Notice of support for social organizations and community-based collectives: an evolutionary relationship, punctuated by a series of stages and exchanges negotiated and improved over time.
The first step? Build a common vision and, based on it, define an agenda that includes the establishment of priorities, responsibilities and concrete goals.
Thus, with a dynamic structure, without having central power, we benefit from a rich exchange of already validated learning, including work methodologies and criteria for analyzing results. We expanded our networking and strengthened our capacity for action. “Trusted partnerships produce transformations that are truly capable of impacting the bases of inequalities and injustice”, declares Carola Matarazzo, executive director of Movimento Bem Maior
