Confidence -based philanthropy seems at first glance a simple concept. But putting it into practice requires innovation, listening and opening for the new. In essence, this approach starts from the premise of rebalanced the relationships between financiers and social organizations, promoting bonds of mutual trust as the basis for the systemic impact. Unlike traditional philanthropy, marked by centralizing dynamics and microgestion, it values the autonomy of organizations, recognizes the legitimacy of field knowledge and bets on continuous dialogue. After all, those who live the problem are closer to the solution.
It was with this spirit that, on May 28, the Much Greater Movement took another concrete step in this direction in holding the 1st Meeting of Social Organizations . We gathered in São Paulo 65 representatives of organizations that make up our current private social investment card. A morning dedicated to listening and collective construction - with coexistence, sharing of learning and network intelligence.
In the program, we organized 13 thematic tables in four axes - fundraising, partnerships and collaboration, social measurement and technology - that represent the largest centers of interest to MBM -supported organizations. The reports showed structural issues, such as the need to strengthen the culture of donation in Brazil, advance in intangible impact measurement and ensure institutional sustainability beyond punctual projects.
Also brought were brought on concrete solutions, such as the use of technologies to engage donors, the creation of diversified financial products, the strengthening of local networks and the importance of active listening to beneficiaries. The collective intelligence that emerged in this meeting is a living sample of collaboration with confidence - and the real desire for long -term cooperation.
The meeting was inaugurated by an inspiring speech by the businessman and philanthropist Elie Horn , who gave each organization time to present himself and then caused the audience about what we need to change to transform Brazil. Then, our executive director, Carola Matarazzo , brought an essential distinction between collaborating and cooperating, reinforcing that we are being called to build genuine bonds, rather than aligning interests. At the end, Fernando Iunes , chairman of the MBM Council, reinforced the strategic role of collaboration as a lever for the systemic impact.
The decision to hold the meeting was born from the desire to deepen this approach beyond formal processes-and zoom screens, bridges made by email, conversations in virtual groups. The proposal was to create a real space of active listening, horizontal exchanges and strengthening of ties between the organizations themselves. A moment when we set aside individual operational challenges and look at the collective dilemmas.
Confidence -based philanthropy is also a way to redesign civil society support systems. And involves observation, listening, co-creation, flexibility and learning. It is almost a design thinking applied to the field of relationships-particularly, I like to correlate to the concept of human-entreed design , in which people are at the center of processes and strategy. Confidence philanthropy transforms financial support into a co -authorship experience.
Inspired by this view, MBM has developed internal tools aligned with this design approach. An example is our relationship thesis , which represents the journey of building confidence with each supported organization. Relations of trust presuppose active listening, human presence, willingness to difficult conversations, reception of vulnerabilities and time to cultivate genuine bonds.
Our thesis is articulated with the follow -up process, where each step deepens the constructed relationship: immersion is an initial connection moment; The definition of agreements is a mutual commitment; Follow -up is the experiment of confidence in practice; And the results are celebrated as fruits of the power of the relationship.
In addition, transparency is an essential value. If we wish deep relationships, MBM also needs to open and be clear: we explain how our support cycles work, the reason for requests such as periodic reports, how we build our indicators and how we communicate the portfolio results to our members and society.
Confidence -based philanthropy is not just a new way to manage private social investments. It is a new way of relating - between organizations, financiers, causes and people. The meeting was a reminder of this: creating face -to -face exchange spaces strengthens bonds, disseminates good practices and brings us closer to the purpose that moves us. It is in the long term connections that we put our bet to transform and sustain a living ecosystem of social impact.
