As I usually say: if science can produce a rocket to go to Mars, science must also be able to eliminate poverty. And investing, for example, in transforming favelas into developed, dignified and digital centers is much cheaper than colonizing another planet.
Our mission is now and here on Earth.
I invite everyone to carefully observe the panorama of social challenges in Brazil, checking the data covered at the Legado , organized by Movimento Bem Maior and Banco Santander, on April 25th.
These are impressive numbers and I believe that a large part of the richer classes are unaware of the size of the challenges. The majority (55%) of Brazilians live with some type of food insecurity, 38% of families depend on donations to feed themselves, 73% of homes do not have treated sewage and around a third of young people do not finish high school.
You can't sit idly by!
In this context, civil society organizations play a role in seeking innovations, solutions and technologies that can serve as a model and inspiration for the public sector. If we improve the flow of investments in institutions, the greater the chances they have to test, validate and scale innovations that can effectively change the face of Brazil.
An example of innovation that I bring from my experience at Gerando Falcões is Favela 3D , which aims to transform favelas into dignified, digital and developed environments. It is a complete change in the favela, seeking to improve the quality of life of its residents. The program covers several areas such as access to health, right to education, citizenship and culture of peace, early childhood, women's autonomy, income generation and culture, sport and leisure.
We wish to show that – with the support of the private sector, the population, civil society organizations and public authorities – these new social technologies can be applied in the more than 13 thousand favelas across the country.
We want to transform the poverty of favelas into a museum piece.
It is always very important to talk about the good practices adopted in Brazil and the complex challenges that lie ahead. On August 4th, we will have the opportunity to continue this conversation, at 1:30 pm, in the pocket edition of Legado, which takes place within Expert XP 2022 .
Just imagine talking about the power of philanthropy at the biggest investment festival in the world! Along with me, the dear Carola Matarazzo, executive director of MBM and Rubens Menin, co-founder of MBM and CEO of MRV, will be on stage at the event. Moderation will be done by José Berenguer, CEO of XP!
The Legado panel at Expert XP 2022 will be in person, at São Paulo Expo, and also online, with free live broadcast. Plan ahead and join us on this special afternoon! We need to move forward together so that doing good becomes a social legacy for this and future generations!
